Tunda Baida

“ତୁଣ୍ଡ ବାଇଦ” ହେଉଛି କାନୁ ଚରଣ ମହାନ୍ତିଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ, ଯାହା ୧୯୪୪ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଏହି ଉପନ୍ୟାସଟି ମୁଖ୍ୟତଃ ପରିବାରର ଶାନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ସୁଖ ଉପରେ ଗୁଜବ ଏବଂ ଗପସର କ୍ଷତିକାରକ ପ୍ରଭାବକୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରେ।ଗଳ୍ପଟି ଜଣେ ବିଧବା ତୁଳସୀ ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ସାନ ଭାଇ ସୁରଙ୍କ ଚାରିପାଖରେ ଘୂରି ବୁଲୁଛି। ସୁର ତୁଳସୀଙ୍କୁ ଗଭୀର ଭାବରେ ସମ୍ମାନ କରେ, ଭଲ ପାଏ ଏବଂ ସମର୍ଥନ କରେ, କିନ୍ତୁ ଗାଁ ଲୋକେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ସମ୍ପର୍କ ବିଷୟରେ ଗପସପ ଏବଂ ଗୁଜବ ପ୍ରଚାର କରିବା ଆରମ୍ଭ କରନ୍ତି, ଏପରିକି ସୁରଙ୍କୁ ତୁଳସୀ ସହିତ ରହିବା ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କ ବଡ଼ ଭାଇକୁ ହତ୍ୟା କରିଥିବା ସନ୍ଦେହ କରନ୍ତି। ସୁରଙ୍କ ଶୁଦ୍ଧ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟ ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ଭାଉଜଙ୍କ ପ୍ରତି ଶ୍ରଦ୍ଧା ସତ୍ତ୍ୱେ, ଏହି ମିଥ୍ୟା ଗୁଜବ ତୁଳସୀଙ୍କ ମନରେ ସନ୍ଦେହ ସୃଷ୍ଟି କରେ। ଉପନ୍ୟାସଟି ସାମାଜିକ ପୂର୍ବାଗ୍ରହ ଏବଂ ଭିତ୍ତିହୀନ ଅଭିଯୋଗର ବିନାଶକାରୀ ଶକ୍ତି ସାମ୍ନାରେ ଚରିତ୍ରଗୁଡ଼ିକର ସଂଘର୍ଷକୁ ଚିତ୍ରଣ କରେ।
“Tunda Baida” is a prominent Odia novel by Kanhu Charan Mohanty, published in 1944. The novel primarily explores the pernicious effects of rumor and gossip on the peace and happiness of a family.The story revolves around a widow, Tulsi, and her younger brother-in-law, Sura. Sura deeply respects, loves, and supports Tulsi, but the villagers begin to gossip and spread rumors about their relationship, even suspecting Sura of murdering his elder brother to be with Tulsi. Despite Sura’s pure intentions and reverence for his sister-in-law, these false rumors create suspicion in Tulsi’s mind. The novel portrays the struggles of the characters in the face of societal prejudice and the destructive power of baseless accusations.
