I teach Environmental studies to BA, BSc and B.Com students. Decades ago the University Grants Commission made it a compulsory subject for graduate students in all the Indian Universities. As a teacher of Environmental Studies or Ecology, I find speaking Environmental Studies in public a very engaging book, it has been bought out by A K Mishra Odisha’s top most publisher – it doesn’t feel like a text but, it is more than a text in as much as it covers the fundamental of Ecology in an interesting and communicative manner concisely. Even the common readers won’t feel like putting it aside once they have begun reading it. Ecology and Environmental Studies are nearly the same subject, for according to Ernst Haickel. Ecology has come from the two Greek words oikos and logos, meaning home and studies. Hence the meaning of Ecology is the study of plant and animals in relation to their natural home and to each other.
From my few years of experience as a teacher, I will urge upon teachers to choose it for teaching proposes and all the students should read it for a clear idea on the subject. The question bank with answers provided in the appendix will be helpful to them for scoring high marks in exam and interviews.
