Shabdatatwabodha Abhidhana

Shabdatatwabodha Abhidhana is a significant Odia dictionary authored by the linguist, lexicographer, and scholar Pandit Gopinath Nanda Sharma. Considered his magnum opus, this work is recognized as the first Odia dictionary and is often referred to as the “Panini of Odia Sahitya.”
Purpose and Features
The book’s purpose was to create a comprehensive Odia-to-Odia dictionary. Pandit Sharma completed the work in 1903, but it wasn’t published until 1916. The dictionary is a significant reference for the Odia language and is known for its detailed analysis of word meanings and grammatical structures. It provides various paradigms for classifying nouns, adjectives, and verbs, making it an essential resource for the study of Odia morphology and linguistics.
ଶବ୍ଦତତ୍ତ୍ୱବୋଧ ଅଭିଧାନ ହେଉଛି ଭାଷାବିତ୍, ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷକାର ଏବଂ ବିଦ୍ୱାନ ପଣ୍ଡିତ ଗୋପୀନାଥ ନନ୍ଦ ଶର୍ମାଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ରଚିତ ଏକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷ। ତାଙ୍କର ମହାନ କୃତି ଭାବରେ ବିବେଚିତ, ଏହି କୃତିକୁ ପ୍ରଥମ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଶବ୍ଦକୋଷ ଭାବରେ ସ୍ୱୀକୃତି ଦିଆଯାଇଛି ଏବଂ ଏହାକୁ ପ୍ରାୟତଃ “ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସାହିତ୍ୟର ପାଣିନି” ଭାବରେ କୁହାଯାଏ।
