ଡକ୍ଟର ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ “ରକ୍ତତୀର୍ଥ ଏରମ୍” ଏକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଐତିହାସିକ କୃତି ଯାହା ୧୯୪୨ ମସିହାରେ ଭାରତ ଛାଡ଼ ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ ସମୟରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ବାଲେଶ୍ୱର ଜିଲ୍ଲାର ଏରମ୍‌ରେ ଘଟିଥିବା ଭୟଙ୍କର ହତ୍ୟାକାଣ୍ଡର ବର୍ଣ୍ଣନା କରେ। ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ସଂଗ୍ରାମୀଙ୍କ ଏକ ଶାନ୍ତିପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସମାବେଶ ଉପରେ ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ପୋଲିସ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଅବାଧ ଗୁଳିଚାଳନା ଯୋଗୁଁ ଏହି ଘଟଣାକୁ ପ୍ରାୟତଃ “ଓଡିଶାର ଜାଲିଆନାୱାଲା ବାଗ୍” ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଏ, ଯାହା ଫଳରେ ୨୯ ଜଣ ଲୋକ ପ୍ରାଣ ହରାଇଥିଲେ ଏବଂ ଅନେକ ଆହତ ହୋଇଥିଲେ।
ଜଣେ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ଐତିହାସିକ ଡକ୍ଟର ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ରେକର୍ଡ, ତଦନ୍ତ କମିଶନ ରିପୋର୍ଟ, ଗୋପନୀୟ ଚିଠି, ଖବରକାଗଜ ବିବରଣୀ ଏବଂ ବଞ୍ଚିଥିବା ଏବଂ ଅଧିକାରୀଙ୍କ ସହିତ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ସାକ୍ଷାତକାରକୁ ଆଧାର କରି ଘଟଣାର ସୂକ୍ଷ୍ମ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରିଥିଲେ। ଏହାର ଶିକ୍ଷାଗତ କଠୋରତା ଏବଂ ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ, ଉତ୍ସାହୀ ଗଦ୍ୟ ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରଶଂସିତ ଏହି ପୁସ୍ତକ ଭାରତର ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ସଂଗ୍ରାମର ଏହି ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ମୁହୂର୍ତ୍ତ ଉପରେ ଆଲୋକପାତ କରେ, ନିଶ୍ଚିତ କରେ ଯେ ଏରମ୍‌ରେ ଦିଆଯାଇଥିବା ବଳିଦାନ ଭୁଲିଯିବ ନାହିଁ। ଏହାର ଶିକ୍ଷାଗତ ଏବଂ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକ ଗୁଣ ପାଇଁ ଏହାକୁ ୧୯୮୬ ମସିହାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଏକାଡେମୀ ପୁରସ୍କାର ମିଳିଥିଲା।
“Raktatirtha Eram” by Dr. Jagannath Pattnaik is a significant Odia historical work that chronicles the horrific massacre that occurred in Eram, Balasore district, Odisha, during the Quit India Movement in 1942. This event is often referred to as the “Jallianwala Bagh of Odisha” due due to the indiscriminate firing by British police on a peaceful gathering of freedom fighters, which resulted in the death of 29 people and numerous injuries.
Dr. Pattnaik, a renowned historian, meticulously researched the incident, drawing upon British records, enquiry commission reports, confidential letters, newspaper accounts, and personal interviews with survivors and officials. The book, lauded for its academic rigor and lucid, spirited prose, sheds light on this pivotal moment in India’s freedom struggle, ensuring the sacrifices made at Eram are not forgotten. It received the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award in 1986 for its academic and literary merit.
