Prayaschitta

“ପ୍ରୟାଶ୍ଚିତ୍ତ” ଦ ପେନନ୍ସ ହେଉଛି ଆଧୁନିକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସାହିତ୍ୟର ପ୍ରମୁଖ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିତ୍ୱମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଜଣେ ଫକୀର ମୋହନ ସେନାପତିଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏକ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ। ୧୯୧୫ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ, ଏହା ତାଙ୍କର ଚାରୋଟି ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଶେଷ ଏବଂ “ଛ ମନ ଅଥ ଗୁନ୍ଥ” ଏବଂ “ମାମୁ” ସହିତ ତାଙ୍କର “ଅପରାଧ ଏବଂ ନ୍ୟାୟର ତ୍ରିକୋଣ” ର ଅଂଶ ଭାବରେ ବିବେଚନା କରାଯାଏ।ଏହି ଉପନ୍ୟାସଟି ଏକ ସାମାଜିକ ବ୍ୟାଖ୍ୟା ଯାହା ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ଉପନିବେଶବାଦ ଅଧୀନରେ ଜୀବନ ପ୍ରତି ସେନାପତିଙ୍କ କ୍ରମବର୍ଦ୍ଧିଷ୍ଣୁ ଦୁଃଖଦ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିକୋଣକୁ ପ୍ରତିଫଳିତ କରେ। ଏହା ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ହିନ୍ଦୁ ମୂଲ୍ୟବୋଧର ପ୍ରତିରକ୍ଷା ଭାବରେ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରେ, ଯାହାକୁ ସେ ବ୍ରିଟିଶମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରଚଳିତ ବିଦେଶୀ ମୂଲ୍ୟବୋଧ ଏବଂ ଇଂରାଜୀ ଶିକ୍ଷା ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ଦ୍ୱାରା ବିପଦଗ୍ରସ୍ତ ବୋଲି ଦେଖିଥିଲେ। ଏହାର ବର୍ଣ୍ଣନା ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ, ପୁସ୍ତକଟି ସାମାଜିକ ବାସ୍ତବବାଦ, ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ପ୍ରଥା ବନାମ ଆଧୁନିକତା ଏବଂ ଜଣଙ୍କର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟର ନୈତିକ ପରିଣାମର ବିଷୟବସ୍ତୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରେ, “କାବ୍ୟିକ ନ୍ୟାୟ” ଉପରେ ଧ୍ୟାନ ଦେଇ ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ଭୁଲ କାମ କରୁଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିମାନଙ୍କୁ ଶେଷରେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାପ ପାଇଁ ଦଣ୍ଡିତ କରାଯାଏ।
“Prayaschitta” The Penance is a celebrated novel by Fakir Mohan Senapati, one of the most prominent figures in modern Odia literature. Published in 1915, it is the last of his four novels and is considered part of his “trilogy of crime and justice” alongside “Chha Mana Atha Guntha” and “Mamu.”The novel is a social commentary that reflects Senapati’s increasingly tragic view of life under British colonialism. It serves as a defense of traditional Hindu values, which he saw as being threatened by the alien values and English education system introduced by the British. Through its narrative, the book explores themes of social realism, traditional customs versus modernity, and the moral consequences of one’s actions, with a focus on “poetic justice” where wrongdoers are ultimately punished for their sins.
