Pratigyan – Premchand

“ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା” ହେଉଛି ମୁନସି ପ୍ରେମଚାନ୍ଦଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏକ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ହିନ୍ଦୀ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ, ଯାହା ମୂଳତଃ ୧୯୨୭ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ପ୍ରଫେସର ଗୋଲକ ବିହାରୀ ଧଳଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ “ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା – ପ୍ରେମଚାନ୍ଦ” ପୁସ୍ତକଟି ଏହି ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀୟ ଉପନ୍ୟାସର ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାରେ ଅନୁବାଦ।
ଏହି କାହାଣୀଟି ଏକ ଶକ୍ତିଶାଳୀ ସାମାଜିକ ବ୍ୟାଖ୍ୟା ଯାହା ଭାରତୀୟ ସମାଜରେ ମହିଳା ଅଧିକାର ଏବଂ ବିଧବାମାନଙ୍କ ଦୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶାର ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ସମ୍ବୋଧିତ କରେ। ବାସ୍ତବବାଦର ଜଣେ ବିଶେଷଜ୍ଞ ପ୍ରେମଚାନ୍ଦ, ପରମ୍ପରା, ନୈତିକତା ଏବଂ ପ୍ରଗତିଶୀଳ ଚିନ୍ତାଧାରାର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତାର ବିଷୟବସ୍ତୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରିବା ପାଇଁ କାହାଣୀ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରନ୍ତି। ନାୟକ, ଅମୃତ ରାୟ ନାମକ ଜଣେ ବିଧବା, ଜଣେ ବିଧବାଙ୍କୁ ବିବାହ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଏକ ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା (ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞା) ଗ୍ରହଣ କରନ୍ତି, ସାମାଜିକ ମାନଦଣ୍ଡକୁ ଚ୍ୟାଲେଞ୍ଜ କରନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ସୀମାନ୍ତ ମହିଳାମାନଙ୍କ ଉତ୍ଥାନ ପାଇଁ ଓକିଲାତି କରନ୍ତି। ଗୋଲକ ବିହାରୀ ଧଳଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏହି ଅନୁବାଦ ପ୍ରେମଚାନ୍ଦଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଭାବଶାଳୀ କୃତିକୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଭାଷାଭାଷୀ ପାଠକମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ସୁଗମ କରିଥାଏ।
“Pratigya” is a well-known Hindi novel by Munshi Premchand, originally published in 1927. The book “Pratigyan – Premchand” by Prof. Golaka Bihari Dhal is a translation of this classic novel into the Odia language.
The story is a powerful social commentary that addresses issues of women’s rights and the plight of widows in Indian society. Premchand, a master of realism, uses the narrative to explore themes of tradition, morality, and the need for progressive thought. The protagonist, a widower named Amrit Rai, takes a vow (pratigya) to marry a widow, challenging societal norms and advocating for the upliftment of marginalized women. This translation by Golaka Bihari Dhal makes Premchand’s influential work accessible to Odia-speaking readers.
