“ମାଟିର ମନୀଷ”ହେଉଛି କାଳିନ୍ଦୀ ଚରଣ ପାଣିଗ୍ରାହୀଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏକ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରୀୟ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ, ଯାହା ୧୯୩୧ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଏହାକୁ ଆଧୁନିକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସାହିତ୍ୟର ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ କୃତି ଭାବରେ ବିବେଚନା କରାଯାଏ ଏବଂ ଏହା ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସଂସ୍କୃତି ଏବଂ ଗ୍ରାମୀଣ ଜୀବନରେ ଗଭୀର ଭାବରେ ଜଡିତ।ଏହି କାହାଣୀଟି ୨୦ଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ପ୍ରାରମ୍ଭରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ ଗାଁରେ ଅବସ୍ଥିତ ଏବଂ ପ୍ରଧାନ ନାମକ ଜଣେ କୃଷକଙ୍କ ପରିବାର ଚାରିପାଖରେ ଘୂରି ବୁଲିଛି, ବିଶେଷକରି ତାଙ୍କ ଦୁଇ ପୁଅ, ବରଜୁ ଏବଂ ଛକାଦିଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଧ୍ୟାନ କେନ୍ଦ୍ରିତ କରୁଛି। ଏହି ଉପନ୍ୟାସରେ ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ମୂଲ୍ୟବୋଧ ବଦଳୁଥିବା ସମୟ, ପରିବାରର ଏକତା ବଦଳୁଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱାକାଂକ୍ଷା ଏବଂ ଜଣେ ଚାଷୀ ଏବଂ ତାଙ୍କ ଜମି ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଗଭୀର ସମ୍ପର୍କର ବିଷୟବସ୍ତୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରାଯାଇଛି।ବଡ଼ ପୁଅ ବରଜୁ, ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ଗୁଣଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିମନ୍ତ କରି, ପରିବାର ଏବଂ ଜମିକୁ ଏକତାରେ ରଖିବା ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କ ପିତାଙ୍କ ଇଚ୍ଛାକୁ ବଜାୟ ରଖିଛନ୍ତି। ଛକାଦି, ତାଙ୍କ ପତ୍ନୀ ଏବଂ ଜଣେ ହେରଫେରକାରୀ ମହାଜନ ଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରଭାବିତ ହୋଇ, ପାରିବାରିକ ସମ୍ପତ୍ତିକୁ ବାଣ୍ଟିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରନ୍ତି। ବିଭାଜନର ଏହି ଇଚ୍ଛାରୁ କେନ୍ଦ୍ରୀୟ ଦ୍ୱନ୍ଦ୍ୱ ସୃଷ୍ଟି ହୁଏ, ଯାହା ମାନବ ସମ୍ପର୍କ, ତ୍ୟାଗ ଏବଂ କୃଷି ଜୀବନ ଉପରେ ସାମାଜିକ ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନର ପ୍ରଭାବର ଏକ ମର୍ମସ୍ପର୍ଶୀ ଚିତ୍ରଣକୁ ନେଇଥାଏ।”ମାଟିରା ମନୀସା” ସେତେବେଳର ବ୍ୟାପକ ସାମାଜିକ-ଆର୍ଥିକ ପ୍ରସଙ୍ଗଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ସ୍ପର୍ଶ କରେ, ଯେଉଁଥିରେ ଦାରିଦ୍ର୍ୟ, ମହାଜନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଶୋଷଣ ଏବଂ ଗାନ୍ଧୀବାଦୀ ଆଦର୍ଶ (ଅହିଂସା, ଆତ୍ମବଳିଦାନ) ର ପ୍ରଭାବ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଭୁକ୍ତ, ଯାହା ଏହାର ଲେଖା ସମୟରେ ପ୍ରଚଳିତ ଥିଲା। ଏହା ଏକ ସରଳ କିନ୍ତୁ ଶକ୍ତିଶାଳୀ କାହାଣୀ ଯାହା ଗ୍ରାମୀଣ ଭାରତର ସଂଘର୍ଷ ଏବଂ ମୂଲ୍ୟବୋଧ ସହିତ ପ୍ରତିଧ୍ୱନିତ ହୁଏ।
“Matira Manisa” (literally “Man of the Soil” or “Born of the Soil”) is a classic Odia novel by Kalindi Charan Panigrahi, published in 1931. It is considered one of the seminal works of modern Odia literature and is deeply rooted in Odia culture and rural life.The story is set in a village in Odisha during the early 20th century and revolves around the family of a farmer named Pradhan, particularly focusing on his two sons, Baraju and Chhakadi. The novel explores themes of traditional values versus changing times, family unity versus individual ambition, and the deep connection between a farmer and his land.Baraju, the elder son, embodies traditional virtues, upholding his father’s wishes to keep the family and land united. Chhakadi, influenced by his wife and a manipulative moneylender, seeks to divide the family property.
