“ମନଗହୀରର ଚାଷ” (ଗଭୀର ମନର ଚାଷ), ୧୯୪୦ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ, ପ୍ରଖ୍ୟାତ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଲେଖକ ଗୋପୀନାଥ ମହାନ୍ତିଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଥମ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ। ଏହି ଉପନ୍ୟାସ ମାନା ନାମକ ଜଣେ ଯୁବତୀଙ୍କ କାହାଣୀକୁ ଅନୁସରଣ କରେ, ଯିଏ ଏକ ଧନୀ ପରିବାରରେ ବିବାହ କରନ୍ତି କିନ୍ତୁ ନିଜକୁ ଅସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ ଏବଂ ଅତୃପ୍ତ ପାଆନ୍ତି। ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା ପାଇଁ ତାଙ୍କର ଇଚ୍ଛା ଏବଂ ପତ୍ନୀ ଏବଂ ବୋହୂ ଭାବରେ ତାଙ୍କର ସାମାଜିକ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଫସି ରହିଥିବା ମାନାଙ୍କ ଯାତ୍ରା ପୁରୁଷପ୍ରଧାନ ସମାଜରେ ମହିଳାମାନଙ୍କ ସଂଘର୍ଷକୁ ଉଜାଗର କରେ। ଏହି ପୁସ୍ତକ ଆତ୍ମ-ଆବିଷ୍କାର, ସଶକ୍ତିକରଣ, ପ୍ରେମ, ବିଶ୍ୱସ୍ତତା ଏବଂ ମାନବ ସମ୍ପର୍କର ଜଟିଳତା ଆଦି ବିଷୟବସ୍ତୁଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରେ। ମହାନ୍ତିଙ୍କ ଲେଖା ଶୈଳୀ କାବ୍ୟିକ ଏବଂ ଉଦ୍ବୋଧକ ହେବା ପାଇଁ ଜଣାଶୁଣା, ଯାହା ୨୦ଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ପ୍ରାରମ୍ଭରେ ଗ୍ରାମୀଣ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ସାରକୁ କଏଦ କରିଥାଏ।
ଏହାର ସଚ୍ଚୋଟତା ଏବଂ ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟବାଦ ପାଇଁ ଜଣାଶୁଣା, ମୋ ସମୟାରା ଓଡ଼ିଶା ଏହି ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସମୟ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ରାଜ୍ୟ ଯେଉଁ ଚ୍ୟାଲେଞ୍ଜ ଏବଂ ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନ ଦେଇ ଗତି କରିଛି ସେ ବିଷୟରେ ଏକ ଅନନ୍ୟ ଏବଂ ନିରପେକ୍ଷ ଦୃଷ୍ଟିକୋଣ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରେ। ଏହି ପୁସ୍ତକଟି ବହୁତ ପ୍ରଶଂସିତ ହୋଇଥିଲା ଏବଂ ୧୯୭୮ ମସିହାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଏକାଡେମୀ ପୁରସ୍କାର ପାଇଥିଲା। ଏହା ଇଂରାଜୀରେ “ଓଡିଶା ଅଫ୍ ମାଇ ଟାଇମ୍ସ” ଭାବରେ ଅନୁବାଦିତ ହୋଇଛି।
“Managahirara Chasha” (The Cultivation of the Deep Mind), published in 1940, is the debut novel of renowned Odia author Gopinath Mohanty. The novel follows the story of a young woman named Mana, who marries into a wealthy family but finds herself unhappy and unfulfilled. Caught between her desire for personal freedom and her societal responsibilities as a wife and daughter-in-law, Mana’s journey highlights the struggles of women in patriarchal societies. The book explores themes of self-discovery, empowerment, love, loyalty, and the complexities of human relationships. Mohanty’s writing style is noted for being poetic and evocative, capturing the essence of rural Odisha in the early 20th century.
Known for its honesty and forthrightness, Mo Samayara Odisha offers a unique and unsparing perspective on the challenges and changes that the state of Odisha went through during this crucial period. The book was highly acclaimed and received the Odisha Sahitya Academy award in 1978. It has been translated into English as Odisha of My Times.
