“ଝାଞ୍ଜା”ଯାହାର ଅର୍ଥ “ଦ ଷ୍ଟର୍ମ”, ହେଉଛି ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସାହିତ୍ୟର ଜଣେ ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ଏବଂ ଲୋକପ୍ରିୟ ଔପନ୍ୟାସିକ କାନହୁ ଚରଣ ମହାନ୍ତିଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଲିଖିତ ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଉପନ୍ୟାସ। ପ୍ରାୟ ୧୯୪୯-୧୯୫୦ ମସିହାରେ ପ୍ରକାଶିତ, ଏହାକୁ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ସାହିତ୍ୟରେ ଏକ ଐତିହାସିକ କୃତି ଭାବରେ ବିବେଚନା କରାଯାଏ।
ଉପନ୍ୟାସର ମୁଖ୍ୟ କାହାଣୀ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଏକ ଛୋଟ ଗାଁରେ ରହୁଥିବା ଝଞ୍ଜା ନାମକ ଜଣେ ଯୁବତୀଙ୍କ ଚାରିପାଖରେ ଘୂରି ବୁଲୁଛି। ସେ ଜଣେ ପୁରୁଷଙ୍କୁ ଭଲ ପାଉ ନଥିବା ପୁରୁଷଙ୍କ ସହିତ ବିବାହ କରିବାକୁ ବାଧ୍ୟ ହୁଅନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ଫଳସ୍ୱରୂପ ତାଙ୍କ ସ୍ୱାମୀ ଏବଂ ଶ୍ୱଶୁର ଘରର ଦୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶାର ସମ୍ମୁଖୀନ ହୁଅନ୍ତି। ତାଙ୍କ ଜୀବନ ଏକ ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ମୋଡ଼ ନେଇଥାଏ ଯେତେବେଳେ ସେ ଜଣେ ଦୟାଳୁ ଏବଂ ପ୍ରେମମୟ ପୁରୁଷ ରଘୁନାଥଙ୍କୁ ଭେଟିଥାନ୍ତି ଯାହାଙ୍କ ସହ ସେ ପ୍ରେମରେ ପଡ଼ିଥାନ୍ତି।ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ କାହାଣୀ ବ୍ୟତୀତ, “ଝାଞ୍ଜା” ଏହାର ସମୟର ଗୁରୁତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ସାମାଜିକ ବିଷୟବସ୍ତୁ ଉପରେ ଖୋଳତାଡ଼ କରେ। ଏହା ପ୍ରେମ, ବିବାହ ଏବଂ ପ୍ରଚଳିତ ସାମାଜିକ ଧାରାକୁ ଅନୁସନ୍ଧାନ କରେ, ବିଶେଷକରି ପୁରୁଷପ୍ରଧାନ ସମାଜରେ ମହିଳା ଅଧିକାର ଏବଂ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଦୁର୍ଦ୍ଦଶା ଉପରେ ଆଲୋକପାତ କରେ। ଉପନ୍ୟାସଟି ୧୯୫୦ ଦଶକରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଗ୍ରାମୀଣ ସାମାଜିକ-ଆର୍ଥିକ ପରିସ୍ଥିତି ବିଷୟରେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଦୃଷ୍ଟି ପ୍ରଦାନ କରେ।କାନୁ ଚରଣ ମହାନ୍ତି ତାଙ୍କର ସାମାଜିକ ବାସ୍ତବବାଦ ପାଇଁ ଜଣାଶୁଣା ଏବଂ ପ୍ରାୟତଃ ତାଙ୍କ ରଚନାରେ ମହିଳାମାନେ ସମ୍ମୁଖୀନ ହେଉଥିବା ସମସ୍ୟା ଏବଂ ଜାତି ଏବଂ ଆର୍ଥିକ ଶୋଷଣର ସମସ୍ୟାକୁ ଚିତ୍ରଣ କରିଛନ୍ତି। “ଝାଞ୍ଜା” ଏହି ବୈଶିଷ୍ଟ୍ୟଗୁଡ଼ିକୁ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତିମନ୍ତ କରିଥାଏ, ସ୍ଥିରତା ଏବଂ ନ୍ୟାୟ ପାଇଁ ସଂଘର୍ଷର ଏକ ହୃଦୟସ୍ପର୍ଶୀ କାହାଣୀ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଥାଏ, ଯାହା ଏହାକୁ ବିଭିନ୍ନ ପାଠକଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଆକର୍ଷଣୀୟ କରିଥାଏ।

Her life takes a significant turn when she encounters Raghunath, a kind and loving man with whom she falls in love.Beyond the personal narrative, “Jhanja” delves into significant social themes of its time. It explores love, marriage, and the prevailing social norms, particularly shedding light on women’s rights and their plight in a patriarchal society. The novel also offers insights into the socio-economic conditions of rural Odisha during the 1950s.Kanhu Charan Mohanty is known for his social realism and often depicted the problems faced by women and issues of caste and economic exploitation in his works. “Jhanja” embodies these characteristics, offering a heartfelt story of resilience and the struggle for justice, making it appealing to a wide range of readers.
